Becoming Catholic
Testimonials
...I had the privilege of walking the RCIA journey as a sponsor for one of St. Gabriel’s Catechumens. Jane wanted to become Catholic for many years and she already knew so much about the Catholic faith. Jane’s deep spirituality brought much to our Wednesday gatherings. You could really see God working in her life and this was such an inspiration to me a “Cradle Catholic.”
Jane’s conversion to the Catholic Faith really emphasized that conversion is a daily event, not just something that happens one day of the year. Each day I have to turn back to God and in his infinite mercy, he takes me back. It takes wonderful people like Jane to bring freshness to my love of God and allows me to renew my own faith.
...My sister and brother are both Catholics. My mother became a Catholic about 3 years ago. One day, strangely and unexpectedly, my husband asked me “Shall we go to RCIA?” Without a moment of hesitation I said “yes”. It is indeed a beautiful step and decision I have taken. RCIA has made me understand a lot with the help from the team and my sponsor.
...I am married to a Catholic and we have been raising our children Catholic. All three received baptism here at St. Gabriel. Because I was so busy raising them and making a good home I never gave it any thought that maybe I should be a part of this faith also. My oldest will be receiving her 1st Communion this year and I would love to share that joy with my husband and her. I’m a little nervous about taking that first step to the RCIA, but I have seen so many in the parish that have gone through this journey process and seem so complete and have a deep relationship with God. This is what I so desire. Maybe this is the year that I say yes to God who calls me down deep in my heart.
...As a new Catholic, I don’t presume to speak for the brothers and sisters who joined the Catholic family with me at Easter, but I know they won’t mind me imparting how moved and privileged we all felt when we were Baptized, then Confirmed and welcomed at the table for the first time.
The journey for me began twelve years ago, when I began to attend church again after a long absence. I was baptized an Anglican, but it was always to the Catholic faith that I was drawn. It seemed as though one had to really work at being a good Catholic. But that still did not scare me off. In fact I look forward to sponsoring a new Catholic in the future and passing on the gift I received.
