Providing Food to Familes in our Community

St. Gabriel Food Pantry provides food to families in need in the Painesville, Mentor and Concord communities.  The efforts of our many volunteers and donors assure that food is provided with sensitivity to our brothers and sisters in Christ. We are here to serve with love and compassion and no one with a need is refused help. While all of us are susceptible to hard times, we are here to support one another and follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

Our Food Pantry

If we can be of service to you, please come to the Food Pantry, located in the building between St. Gabriel Church and Learning Loft Preschool. Our phone number is 440-721-0306. We serve residents in Mentor who live east of Route 615 and south of 20, West Painesville Township to Liberty Street and all of Concord. If someone comes to our doors who lives outside this vicinity, we will still offer them food and then help them locate one of the 21 Lake County programs that assist people with food. We also have volunteers who deliver food to those who are homebound.

Volunteers and Donations

food-pantryThe Pantry is staffed by 40 volunteers Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Volunteers are always needed. Varied duties include working in the office, picking up donations at area grocery stores, making trips to Market Place, located in the Cleveland Food Bank, and delivering meals to people who are homebound. Able-bodied men are always appreciated to help unload the delivery truck. You can volunteer on a weekly, bi-monthly or monthly basis in any area.

If you wish to make a donation to the Food Pantry, food items may be dropped off Monday through Friday from 10 am to 1 pm. You may also drop off non perishable items and/or cash donations at the parish office if the Food Pantry is closed. Kindly leave the items by the benches in front of the parish office.

Making A Difference in Our Community

The St. Gabriel Food Pantry served a total of 146,055 meals in 2009 to 2,767 families– an increase of 587 families from the prior year.  During the month of January 2010 alone, we were able to serve 252 households, which translates to 883 people.

One dollar donated can buy a small hamburger for us or, however, at the Food Pantry, we can use it to purchase 7 pounds of food or four meals for a hungry family.  The need is great in our community.  Your generous donation to the Food Pantry can make a significant impact in the number of families we are able to serve.
