Hospice Ministry

Providing Community Care


In 2003, a number of Catholic parishes in the Lake/Geauga district began to discuss how they might come together to develop an inter-parish ministry in concert with Bishop Pilla's Vibrant Parish Life initiative. The group met for more than a year exploring many ideas and establishing a hospice ministry generated great enthusiasm.

Hospice of the Western Reserve (HWR) and Malachi House were visited to obtain ideas of what we might be able to do. HWR was very generous in giving of their time and offered several ideas for consideration. While working with them we knew that we shared a common holy philosophy regarding end of life care and a partnership was formed.

Today, volunteers are recruited from the parishes in the district and the goal is for community to care for community. The volunteer opportunities are many and varied and education is provided by Hospice of the Western Reserve.
