Mass Intentions
As Catholics, we hold to the firm belief that the Celebration of the Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith. In the Celebration of the Eucharist, we participate in Christ’s offering of Himself to the Father, through the power of the Holy Spirit, for our redemption and the redemption of the world. The key word/phrase in that last sentence is that we participate; all, not just the priest, have the opportunity to participate in the Celebration of the Eucharist as we offer ourselves, our own personal intentions, and the intentions of those whom we love.
At the Celebration of the Eucharist, the custom is that each Mass is celebrated for one particular intention, i.e. an individual (living or deceased), a group of people (a parish or a family), or a particular need (for the protection of human life, the unity of Christians, etc.). And while there may be only one intention mentioned at Mass (Canon 946), as stated previously, we all have the opportunity to bring our needs and intentions. Since we only have a finite number of Masses at St. Gabriel, it is our intention to seek to provide all persons with an opportunity to have Masses celebrated for their intentions. We ask that you please be patient with us.
If we are unable to accommodate your desire for a particular intention on a particular date there are other options available. First, you and your family may come that day and offer your individual intention collectively. The intention would not be explicitly mentioned but that does not mean that your intention is not offered; you are offering it as a part of the priestly people of the Baptized. Secondly, you may always contact the Mission Office in the Diocese of Cleveland: (216) 696-6525 x4240 or https://www.dioceseofcleveland.org/offices/mission-office/masses. You may also call other parishes in the Diocese of Cleveland, particularly parishes in the inner city of Cleveland, who often times have available times/days for Masses to be celebrated for your particular intention(s). Similarly, this also has the additional benefit of assisting parishes that may be struggling.
· You can request a Mass Intention by calling the parish office (440-352-8282), stopping by the parish window, or sending your request through our “Mass Intention Request” button on our website.
· Once the Parish office secretary has confirmed your Mass Intention, you will receive a Sign Up Genius Confirmation.
· PLEASE NOTE – every effort will be made not to make changes to our Mass schedule. However, sometimes, changes are needed. You will be contacted should we need to change your Mass Intention due to one of these unforeseen changes.
· Once confirmed, your monetary offering can be made by check or cash at the window or we will send you a link to our Mass Intention Payment page for credit card donation.
· A $10 Mass offering per intention is requested.
Please see the following Parish Office guidelines for Mass Intentions:
· An intention for the same person can only be scheduled 3 times per quarter and only once in an 8 day period.
· The Parish Office cannot start a list of requests or hold onto additional payments if the number of intentions requested exceeds what can be scheduled in the current open quarter.
· Please do not leave your monetary donation for Mass intentions until we confirm by Sign Up Genius that we can fulfill the Intentions you are requesting.
· Mass with the intention of “For the Health and Well Being of Our Parish Family” will be offered once each weekend at the Vigil or a Sunday Mass per Canon Law.
· Again, every effort will be made not to make changes to any Mass Intentions. However, if this should happen, you will be contacted immediately and every effort will be made to find another Mass day and time that fits your family’s schedule.
· Remember that an Intention can be said for all in a particular family, not just individuals (i.e., for the deceased members of the X family)
Should you have any questions or need any assistance, please feel free to contact the Parish office at 440-352-8282.
